Overview
Joshua joined Smith Anderson in 2016 after the legislative short session with diverse experience in business, higher education and government. His sales background in business prepared him well to join the staff at the General Assembly, where he assisted a key Senate leader in the appropriations process and worked closely with Senate leadership staff. His experience in seminary, where he earned a Masters in Divinity, broadened his understanding and prepared him to deal with the diversity of interests and people encountered in the legislative process.
Joshua’s work with the Senate included analyzing and researching issues of concern to Senate leadership. He became a trusted advisor, managing the communication from key Senate leaders to constituents and other stakeholders impacted by specific legislative measures. As part of his duties as support staff, Joshua participated and contributed by negotiating meetings as the state budget was formulated through the Senate and joint-conference process.
With Smith Anderson, Joshua is using his knowledge and experience gained in business, higher education, and the General Assembly to assist clients. His principle duties include lobbying on key appropriations and policy issues, as well as keeping clients informed about the activities and progress of the General Assembly while it is in session.
