Overview

Jim Dougherty focuses his practice on the Life Sciences and AgTech sectors, leveraging his extensive experience as former in-house counsel for a global life sciences company and as an Assistant GC at a St. Louis-based, agri-food startup that went public with a $1.3B valuation. Before joining Smith Anderson, Jim led the North American crop protection licensing business for a global life sciences company. As part of Smith Anderson’s Technology Transactions practice, Jim provides strategic business-minded legal guidance to help clients navigate complex business landscapes, forge key partnerships and drive innovation.

Jim advises clients on licensing and collaborations, technology development, product commercialization and regulatory compliance. His broad experience spans commercial law, corporate governance, intellectual property, regulatory and policy matters, equipping him with a well-rounded perspective to support companies at every stage.

Having lived and worked in Canada, France and China, Jim brings a global outlook to his practice. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, cooking, playing hockey and golfing.
