Pete Marino Lands on Construction Law Power List

North Carolina Lawyers Weekly has named Pete Marino to its 2025 Construction Law Power List. A national leader in construction law, Pete co-leads Smith Anderson’s Real Estate Development team and Construction and Infrastructure practice.

With more than 30 years of experience, Pete represents leading national and international general contracting and engineering firms, as well as public, institutional and corporate owner organizations. From innovative P3 infrastructure projects to next-generation nuclear power plants, he has served as lead counsel on some of the Southeast’s most significant public and private construction projects, including North Carolina’s first Interstate toll road project, the state’s largest single award design-build highway project, and its first and second light rail projects. Pete also was lead counsel on numerous international airport, land and airside projects and a LEED-certified World Headquarters campus for a Fortune 500 company. Other notable projects include:

  • Lead construction counsel for an international airport’s $3 billion master facilities improvement plan, including a new primary runway, parking facilities and many other terminal, roadway and other infrastructure improvement projects.
  • Representation of a national real estate developer in its more than $300 million mixed-use project in the downtown Raleigh and Glenwood South areas that includes apartment, retail, hotel and parking improvements—one of the largest mixed-use projects now in development in Raleigh.
  • Lead construction counsel for a national developer on the approximately $330 million public bus facility and tower overbuild Public-Private Partnership (P3) project.

In addition to projects throughout the U.S., Pete has advised clients with reconstruction projects in Iraq and Afghanistan, projects in Central America, Europe, as well as Puerto Rico and Guam, including those on U.S. military bases.

Pete is a national leader in the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Forum on Construction Law, serving on its Governing Committee and as past chair of its Construction Contract Documents Division II. He also served as former chair of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Construction Law Section and was managing editor and co-author of the North Carolina Construction Law Deskbook (2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th editions). He also chairs the Freeways Division for the Regional Transportation Alliance of the Triangle and is a fellow with the Construction Lawyers Society of America.

In addition to receiving the highest ranking available in Construction Law by Chambers USA, Pete was named “Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers®, Raleigh Construction Law, has been ranked in Business North Carolina’s Legal Elite for Construction for the past 11 years and was named Top Construction Lawyer in North Carolina, Legal Elite Peer Selection edition by Business North Carolina magazine.
