NAACP Recognizes Smith Anderson for Commitment to Civil Rights Advocacy Group
The Raleigh-Apex Chapter of the NAACP honored Smith Anderson with its Corporate Award in recognition of its support of the group and active participation in its Legal Redress Committee.
Dr. Mark Vasconcellos, president of the Raleigh-Apex NAACP Chapter, presented the award to Smith Anderson attorney David Hayden during the “Justice for All” President's Luncheon on Dec. 7.
The event featured N.C. Supreme Court Justice Anita Earls as a speaker, with her colleague, Justice Allison Riggs, accepting the NAACP’s “Firm Believer in Justice Award” for her exemplary commitment to civil rights and social justice.
David co-chaired the luncheon alongside former N.C. Supreme Court Justice Mike Morgan, where they also honored the significance of Pearl Harbor Day. Together, they reflected on the day’s historical importance and drew powerful parallels to acts of courage and resilience, including the heroic actions of WWII hero Dorie Miller.
David also announced the chapter’s inaugural presentation of the Medgar Evers Veterans Award to Alfonso Williams, a Vietnam veteran and lifelong Raleigh resident, honoring his service and dedication to the chapter.
