Benji Jones Talks Raising Capital on Test. Optimize. Scale. Podcast
Benji Jones was a guest on the Test. Optimize. Scale. podcast, where she shared her insights on the evolving landscape of capital raising through regulated investment crowdfunding and other innovative funding mechanisms.
On the podcast from Digital Niche Agency (DNA), Benji discusses how businesses can leverage both conventional and alternative funding paths to fuel growth in the dynamic startup financial environment that saw a seismic shift with the passing of the JOBS Act in 2012, allowing companies to go beyond word-of-mouth to raise money.
"The real change that the JOBS Act put in place was that it said, 'For a long, long time we've been saying that companies that want to raise capital can't advertise to raise private money,'" Benji told Jason Fishman, CEO of DNA. "With the JOBS Act, that got broken apart."
Crowdfunding is still in its infancy, with evolving technology, regulations and processes. While challenging, it’s an incredibly creative space with significant opportunities, but requires careful preparation. It’s not just about raising funds but understanding the rules, assembling the right team and making informed decisions, Benji said.
With extensive experience spanning from guiding startups through crowdfunding campaigns to advising on complex M&A deals for public companies and venture capital funds, Benji combines experience in traditional private placements, angel investments and FinTech solutions, such as blockchain smart contracts and digital assets. The Best Lawyers in America® has recognized Benji in 2021, 2023 and 2025 as Securities Regulation "Lawyer of the Year" in Raleigh and the 2022 Securities/Capital Markets Law "Lawyer of the Year" in Raleigh. She has also been recognized in Securities/Capital Markets Law (2018-2025) and Securities Regulation (2019-2025).
