Triangle Business Journal

Triangle Business Journal has named Benji Jones, a securities and start-up attorney, a 2025 Women in Business Award winner, an accolade that recognizes dynamic leaders who have made significant contributions to their industries and communities.

Benji's exceptional leadership in regulated investment crowdfunding and startup financing has made her a trailblazer in the legal and financial sectors. Her financial strategies help companies navigate both conventional and alternative paths to raising capital, positioning her as a sought-after legal advisor in the modern finance landscape. Benji combines traditional capital raising and cutting-edge FinTech solutions and pioneered innovative funding approaches that blend traditional private placements and angel investments with emerging technologies like blockchain smart contracts and digital assets.

"It gets tougher with every passing year when it comes to judging from a growing list of accomplished leaders," TBJ President and Publisher Sougata Mukherjee said. "We had one of the highest numbers of nominations this year, which is an attestation to the importance and prestige of the awards program."

Benji’s achievements in 2024 included:

  • Expanding national thought leadership: She participated in various panel discussions at leading industry events, serves on the Board of the Crowdfunding Professional Association (CfPA), and plays a pivotal role in shaping SEC strategies for regulated crowdfunding.
  • Professional recognition: Benji was named "Securities Regulation Lawyer of the Year" in Raleigh for 2025 by The Best Lawyers in America®, marking her third time receiving this honor.
  • Community and artistic engagement: Beyond her legal practice, Benji is deeply involved in her community, previously serving as the Visual and Performing Arts Chair at Saint Mary’s School, and performing in local theater productions, including The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe and Clue: The Play.

Benji has over 20 years of experience as a transactional attorney, representing public and private companies on a broad spectrum of legal issues. Benji regularly represents businesses in public equity and debt offerings, domestic private placements, crowdfunding, other non-traditional private offerings and repurchase programs, public company securities compliance, corporate formation and governance, early-stage financing for start-up and growth companies, mergers and acquisitions and strategic contracting.

Benji’s personal milestones reflect her commitment to growth and gratitude, including raising two children who both attend UNC-Chapel Hill and pursuing creative and adventurous passions like scuba diving and yoga.

Benji and the other Women in Business Award winners will be celebrated at an awards luncheon on March 12 at the Embassy Suites in Cary. The entire list of winners can be viewed here.
