Wayne Maiorano and Emily Yeatts Speak at Legal Issues for Professional Engineers Seminar
Raleigh, NC (November 30, 2011) Wayne Maiorano and Emily Yeatts, lawyers in Smith Anderson’s Construction practice group, spoke at the Legal Issues for Professional Engineers Seminar in Chapel Hill on November, 29. Their topic was “Complying with Rules and Regulations on the Practice of Professional Engineering.”
The presentation focused on defining the practice of professional engineering while detailing the powers and duties of the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors and the requirements for licensing and renewal. Mr. Maiorano and Ms. Yeatts also addressed the grounds for disciplinary action, procedures for investigating and hearings, and reviewed the possible types of disciplinary actions engineers should be aware of.
Mr. Maiorano advises clients in all aspects of construction law, including contract negotiations and drafting, risk management, dispute resolution and litigation. He represents developers, general contractors, large subcontractors, sureties and design professionals. Mr. Maiorano has extensive experience assisting clients with surety and lien claims, construction disputes arising out of public and private projects, construction defect claims, real estate and property related disputes and litigation, insurance coverage disputes, licensing issues, and landlord-tenant disputes.
Ms. Yeatts practices in the areas of Construction Law, Contract Disputes and Commercial Litigation, and Land Use & Zoning. Her practice involves counseling owners, developers, sureties, general contractors, and subcontractors on all issues related to construction and development. She regularly handles construction contract drafting, negotiation and review, and has broad experience litigating contract disputes and business tort actions. She has been accredited through the Green Building Certification Institute as a LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Associate.
