Tucker Appointed to Chief Justice’s Commission on the Future of the North Carolina Business Court
Donald H. Tucker, Jr., a partner with Smith, Anderson, Blount, Dorsett, Mitchell & Jernigan, was recently appointed to serve a three-year term on the Chief Justice’s Commission on the Future of the North Carolina Business Court.
The Commission was established by Order of the Supreme Court. Commission members include 16 practicing lawyers from across the state, as well as representatives of the NC Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals and Superior Court, the Administrative Offices of the Courts, the NC House and Senate, the Commission on Business Laws and the Economy, and the general public. The Commission’s major responsibilities include examining the tasks and procedures of the North Carolina Business Court and of other states’ business courts. The Commission will provide recommendations regarding geographic expansion, jurisdiction, administrative efficiency, appellate process, arbitration, and continuing judicial education.
The North Carolina Business Court is a forum of the North Carolina State Courts’ trial division. Cases involving complex issues of corporate and commercial law in North Carolina are assigned by the Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court to a specially-appointed Business Court judge who oversees resolution of all matters in the case through trial.
