The NC General Assembly Appoints Richard Y. Stevens to the UNC-Chapel Hill Board of Trustees

As part of the North Carolina General Assembly’s 2017 Appointment Bill, Senator Philip Berger has appointed Smith Anderson attorney Richard Y. Stevens to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Board of Trustees. Richard’s four-year term commences on July 1, 2017 and will conclude on June 30, 2021. 

UNC-Chapel Hill’s Board of Trustees consists of 13 members – the president of the student government, eight persons elected by the UNC Board of Governors and four persons appointed by the governor. The Board of Trustees assists with development of the institution, fostering collaboration with other institutions and inspiring a high level of excellence in all endeavors.

Richard joined Smith Anderson in September 2012 after serving as a Senator in the North Carolina General Assembly since 2003. From 2011-2012, he was co-chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee and served as a budget leader under both Republican and Democratic majorities. Richard was Manager of Wake County from 1984 to 2000. He also served as Assistant Wake County Manager and held numerous positions with the City of Durham, including Director of Finance and Assistant City Manager.
