Smith Anderson Welcomes Robert Shaw to Lead its Health Care Practice

Smith Anderson announced today the hiring of accomplished health care attorney Robert Shaw, who will serve as the leader of the firm’s Health Care practice. The firm’s Health Care practice consists of a team of experienced lawyers whose services include complex health care contracting, regulatory compliance, mergers and acquisitions, reimbursement, and client counseling regarding value-based payment strategies. Team members also advise clients regarding health care policy, legislative advocacy, executive strategy, litigation and the complex business requirements of health care organizations.

Robert has a robust health care regulatory practice, having advised clients around the country with respect to the Affordable Care Act, HIPAA, Anti-Kickback Statute, Stark Law, the Civil Monetary Penalties Law, CLIA certification, corporate practice of medicine, False Claims Act, insurance regulation, balance billing statutes, licensure, physician credentialing and Medicare/Medicaid compliance matters. He has served as counsel in Medicare and Medicaid audits and administrative appeals in such diverse places as Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Texas, Nevada, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida.

In addition to Robert’s health care regulatory background, he also brings extensive mergers and acquisitions (M&A), transactional and tax experience to Smith Anderson’s Health Care practice, including advising Fortune 500 companies, private equity-backed ventures and closely-held businesses. Notable experience includes representing clients on both the buyer side and seller side in M&A transactions, providing tax planning and business transactions counsel, drafting physician contracts and operating agreements, guiding clients through federal and state tax audits and appeals, and advising clients with respect to financing issues.
