Smith Anderson Partner Matt Rhoad Elected President of IRWA Carolinas Chapter
Raleigh, N.C. – Smith Anderson Partner Matt Rhoad was recently elected president of Chapter 31 of the International Right of Way Association. Matt will begin his one-year term as president of the Chapter, which encompasses all of North and South Carolina, on July 1. He currently serves as the Chapter’s vice president and previously served as its treasurer.
With nearly 10,000 members around the world, IRWA is a professional member organization comprised of global infrastructure real estate practitioners. Since its inception as a not-for-profit association in 1934, it has served professionals who acquire, manage and transfer the land rights needed for building and maintaining energy and transportation infrastructure.
Matt has significant experience in right-of-way acquisitions and condemnation/eminent domain for electrical, natural gas, and water and sewer infrastructure; easement negotiation and drafting; public utility real estate issues; land use and zoning; real estate development; commercial real estate transactions; negotiating and litigating boundary and encroachment disputes; and title disputes.
In 2012, Matt served as president of the Wake County Real Property Lawyers Association. Additionally, he is currently a member of the Section Council for the North Carolina Bar Association’s Zoning, Planning & Land Use group. Read his bio here.
