Smith Anderson Partner, James K. Dorsett, III, Elected As President of the American Counsel Association
At its annual meeting in Chicago on August 8, 2005, the American Counsel Association (ACA) elected Smith Anderson Partner, James K. Dorsett, III, to serve a one-year term as its President. Founded in 1929, the ACA is comprised of attorneys from the United States, Canada, England and other countries whose goals include enhancing standards of practice and professionalism and assisting law students in preparing for the general practice.
Concentrating in commercial litigation, Mr. Dorsett joined Smith Anderson in 1978 where his diverse practice includes representing corporations in contract, trade secrets and covenant not to compete matters and defending manufacturers and retailers in products liability actions before the state and federal courts. He has also appeared on behalf of domestic airlines and their insurers, and his work extends to traumatic injury and wrongful death cases and alternative dispute resolution.
A past president of the North Carolina State Bar, Mr. Dorsett also currently serves as a delegate to the American Bar Association House of Delegates and on the Board of Governors of the International Society of Barristers. He is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. Mr. Dorsett and his family reside in Raleigh, where he is active in community and civic affairs.
