Smith Anderson Hosts the North Carolina Business Committee for Education board.

The board members of the North Carolina Business Committee for Education (NCBCE) met at Smith Anderson offices on Thursday, August 21, and were hosted by board member and Smith Anderson partner, Mike Mitchell.

The NCBCE is a non-profit, non-partisan consortium of businesses from across the state. The committee was established in 1983 and is an advocate for continuous improvement in public education. It is comprised of North Carolina’s leading corporations and businesses focused on the link between education and economic growth.

Also in attendance was Henry Mitchell, a founding member of NCBCE and a long-time partner at Smith Anderson. Mitchell was honored by Governor Mike Easley for his service to the organization with the following letter.

Governor Easley writes:

“The North Carolina Business Committee for Education (NCBCE) has brought the collective business voice to our public schools for twenty-five years. Thank you for your leadership in establishing this important organization and for crafting the original Articles of Incorporation.

The results-oriented solutions led by NCBCE have led to continued progress in our state’s education system. Because of its location in the Office of the Governor, NCBCE is a unique public/private partnership. This partnership demonstrates North Carolina’s commitment to supporting the link between education and economic well-being. Your vision was invaluable in helping create the foundation for this work.

It is significant that the offices of Smith Anderson, Blount, Dorsett, Mitchell & Jernigan LLP, continue to be involved in NCBCE through Mike Mitchell’s role as an active board member. With his leadership and guidance, NCBCE continues to make its mission relevant to North Carolina and the nation in preparing students for success in the 21st century.
