Smith Anderson Hosts Duke International Scholars

Raleigh, NC – Smith Anderson recently had the opportunity to host a group of international students from the Summer Institute on Law, Language and Culture at Duke. The institute’s visit to the offices of Smith Anderson in downtown Raleigh has become an annual event.

The International students spent a morning at Smith Anderson and participated in a panel discussion that was led by partners Jackson Moore, Margaret Rosenfeld and David Hayden. The panel discussed the Triangle region's increasingly international focus, Smith Anderson's international business experience, and the vagaries of the practice of law in the United States. Associates Heath Tripp and Peter Bosman also met with the students to share insights on law firm culture in the U.S.

The Duke Summer Institute on Law, Language and Culture (SILLC) is a four-week course designed for international scholars to provide an introduction to the United States’ legal system and allow participants to have a glimpse at the law school experience. The SILLC class of 2013 totaled 22 students. The roster included those hailing from a number of countries, including Brazil, Chile, China, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, and Turkey.
