Smith Anderson Attorney Helps Nation’s State Medical Boards Shape the Future of Medical Regulation
Shawn Parker Elected to Federation of State Medical Boards’ Board of Directors
The Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) has elected Smith Anderson attorney and North Carolina Medical Board (NCMB) Public Member, Shawn Parker, to serve as a director-at-large on its Board of Directors. In Shawn’s new role with FSMB, he will expand his influence to develop policy at the national level and provide guidance and resources for state medical boards in order to achieve common goals – public protection and access to quality healthcare.
With his election, Shawn becomes the 16th NCMB board member to serve on the FSMB board of directors since its inception in 1912, and he is likely also the only non-physician NCMB member to ever serve on the FSMB board. Shawn currently serves as Chair to the NCMB’s Policy Committee and has been Parliamentarian to the Board since his initial appointment.
“Shawn Parker has made an immediate impact at the NCMB and will bring his deep experience as a policy and regulatory expert to the position of FSMB Board Member,” said Dr. Timothy Lietz, NCMB President. “He has deep policy knowledge at the state and national levels, with specific experience drafting North Carolina’s most recent update to the Medical Practice Act. His leadership, judgement and vision to support FSMB’s goals of shaping boards across the nation make him an excellent fit for the job.”
At Smith Anderson, Shawn focuses his practice on health care, where he advises clients on health care policy, legislative advocacy, executive strategy and regulatory guidance concerning business planning for organized medicine. Shawn has dedicated his career to public service and to the health care industry and has seen first-hand the issues facing clinicians, patients, employers, medical institutions and medical regulators.
