Sammy Thompson Inducted into Boys & Girls Clubs Hall of Fame

Raleigh, N.C. – Smith Anderson Partner Sammy Thompson has been inducted into the Wake County Boys & Girls Clubs Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame honors individuals, civic groups and corporations that have strongly impacted the Clubs.

Sammy has been involved with the Boys & Girls Clubs for over 38 years, joining the Board of Directors in 1977 and serving as its president in 1983. He remains an engaged leader in the organization.

“Since 1977, 101 other board members have rotated on and off the Board, many of them also long serving,” said Ralph E. Capps, president and CEO of the Wake County Boys & Girls Clubs. “There are times when long-serving board members take on a role as ‘elder statesman’ and disengage from the hard work; that is certainly not the case with Sammy. When confronted with a problem, he digs right in and looks for serious solutions that benefit both Club members and the Boys & Girls Clubs.”

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve on the Boys and Girls Clubs Board of Directors for almost forty years,” said Thompson. “Helping young people develop confidence, self-respect and empathy for others improves lives and makes our community a better place to live.”

Thompson and the two other inductees will be recognized at the Boys & Girls Clubs’ 13th Annual Breakfast of Champions on Nov. 9 at the Raleigh Convention Center. Phil Ford, former National Player of the Year and UNC alum, will be the keynote speaker.

A member of the firm’s Medical Malpractice Defense and Health Care practices, Thompson has 47 years of experience in the courtroom as an advocate for the defense, having tried over 300 cases to jury verdict. He has tried cases in all Federal and State trial courts in North Carolina, and has experience in all North Carolina appellate courts, as well as the United States Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.
