Portion of I-795 Dedicated to Martin Lancaster
RALEIGH, N.C. – On October 22, the North Carolina Department of Transportation and the Goldsboro Metropolitan Planning Organization dedicated and named a portion of I-795, from Pikeville to Goldsboro, for Smith Anderson attorney H. Martin Lancaster. Mr. Lancaster received the honor for his role in promoting the construction of the interstate highway. Secretary of N.C. Transportation, Eugene A. Conti, Jr., was the keynote speaker at the ceremony which was held in the Wayne County Courthouse.
Mr. Lancaster has received international praise as well. He has presented as the guest of the European Union and consulted with government and education leaders in the United Kingdom, Australia and Thailand. In May 2011, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth appointed Mr. Lancaster an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. The investiture was conducted by His Royal Highness Prince Charles at the Ambassador’s Residence at the British Embassy in Washington, D.C. The award was in recognition of the role that Mr. Lancaster played in assisting the Department of Employment and Learning restructure higher education and economic and workforce development in Northern Ireland.
