North Carolina Citizens for Business and Industry (NCCBI) Publishes Updated Workplace Policy and Form Best Practices Guide for North Carolina Employers
To provide North Carolina employers with a best practices guide to workplace policies and forms, the North Carolina Citizens for Business and Industry (NCCBI) announces the 2005 edition of Model Employee Policies and Forms for North Carolina Employers. The first edition, published in 2002, quickly became a best seller and has been updated to reflect recent changes and developments. The state’s largest business group with over 2000 member companies, NCCBI serves as the state’s Chamber of Commerce with a mission to improve the quality of life for residents including by protecting the state’s business climate.
Lead-authored by Kimberly J. Korando, a partner with Raleigh-based law firm Smith Anderson and head of its Employment, Labor and Human Resources Group, the 350-page manual and CD benefits employers of all sizes by providing comprehensive need-to-know information and resources. Commentary, forms and information included in this book include 145 policies and forms to download; information about state and federal employment law; a list of record retention and workplace posting requirements; a directory of relevant agency websites; and policy drafting and documentation recommendations.
“Our state has a long and proud history of laws that give companies many rights that do not exist in other states. Being able to take full advantage of these rights while at the same time achieving employer of choice status, legal compliance and smart risk management begins with smart policy drafting. We developed this book with these goals in mind,” says Ms. Korando.
“While there are many form books and other resources to go by in circulation today, they do not focus specifically on best practices for North Carolina employers. This book does,” Ms. Korando adds.
In addition to practicing law, Ms. Korando co-founded the Institute for Human Resources Training (IHRT), an organization that researches, develops and teaches human resources compliance strategies primarily for human resource professionals and business leaders. A frequent invited speaker, Ms. Korando has presented on a wide-range of employment and human resource topics including at the Duke University Fuqua School of Business, University of North Carolina, Society for Human Resources Management and other state and national organizations.
A lecturer at Peace College, Ms. Korando also serves on the college’s Human Resources degree program Advisory Board. The Smith Anderson Employment, Labor and Human Resources Group, lead by Ms. Korando, will host its 13th annual Employment Law Update (ELU) conference in October and November 2005 to educate human resource and business professionals on relevant employment and human resources law and regulatory changes.
