NCBA Spotlights Cherell Harris as New Minorities In the Profession Committee Member
The North Carolina Bar Association’s BarBlog featured Smith Anderson attorney Cherell Harris in a Q&A as one of the new members of its Minorities In the Profession Committee (MIP).
The MIP Committee is dedicated to promoting an increased presence of minorities in the legal profession; the ongoing education of minorities in the legal profession; the betterment of life for those minorities in the legal profession; providing the public with quality information regarding issues of concern to minority lawyers; and educating the public about the contributions of North Carolina’s minority lawyers.
Cherell, a graduate from Spelman College (B.S. in Chemistry) and NC A&T State University (Masters in Engineering), shared that she wanted to be an attorney ever since she was a child; however, she took a detour and cultivated a 24-year career in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. She added that she never lost the desire to become an attorney and when she had the opportunity to pursue a legal career while maintaining her day job, she did, graduating from North Carolina Central University School of Law in 2019.
Cherell currently serves as co-chair of the Legal LINK subcommittee of the Young Lawyers Division and as the chair of the Communications Committee of the MIP Committee of the NCBA. She is part of the Technology Transactions Practice group at Smith Anderson and is focused on technology transactions, intellectual property and life sciences.
