Mike Weddington Reappointed to Bar Leadership Positions
Raleigh (August 6, 2009) - Mike Weddington, a member of Smith Anderson’s Construction, Regulatory and Intellectual Property Practice Groups, has been reappointed to chair two Bar groups.
Mr. Weddington has been appointed by the North Carolina State Bar to a second term as chair of the Board of Legal Specialization. He was also recently appointed by the North Carolina Bar Association Foundation to a second term as chair of the Administration of Justice Committee.
The Board of Legal Specialization is the State Bar agency that administers the State Bar's program of legal specialization and approves applicants for specialization in the fields authorized by the State Bar Council.
The Administration of Justice Committee considers issues such as judicial independence, courthouse security, how to better handle persons with mental disabilities in the criminal justice system and development of new courts, making recommendations for such changes and initiatives that the Committee believes will enhance the overall administration of justice in the state. This Committee also was instrumental in the design and implementation of the Judicial Performance Evaluation program now coming into use for assessment of the performance of state trial judges.
