NC Bar Association Taps Raleigh Lawyer for Hall of Fame

RALEIGH (July 10, 2000) -- The North Carolina Bar Association (NCBA) recently inducted Raleigh lawyer James D. (Jim) Blount, Jr. into the General Practice Hall of Fame. The ceremony, part of the NCBA's annual convention at Myrtle Beach, S.C., honored four North Carolina lawyers for their lifetime of exemplary service and high ethical and professional standards as general practitioners of law.

Blount practices with the Raleigh law firm of Smith, Anderson, Blount, Dorsett, Mitchell & Jernigan, L.L.P. and has been practicing law in North Carolina for nearly 50 years. Since 1952, Blount has practiced in both business and litigation areas, but he is best noted for his skills in the courtroom. In addition to being well-prepared and an effective advocate in the courtroom, Jim has the reputation among opposing counsel that his friendly smile and polite manners would "nice you to death."

Blount's distinguished career includes a number of positions as chairman for a variety of legal associations in North Carolina. He was a charter member of the North Carolina Association of Defense Counsel; State Chairman for the American College of Trial Lawyers; Chairman of the Bench-Bar Liaison Committee and Centennial Endowment Campaign in the North Carolina Bar Association; and Honorary Director of the Wake County Bar Association.

The General Practice Hall of Fame recognizes outstanding members of the legal profession whose careers have served as models for lawyers in the general practice of law. General Practice Hall of Fame lawyers have exhibited throughout their practice the highest standards of ethics and professional competency and have rendered a high level of service to the profession and their communities.

Other lawyers honored at the event were Everette C. "Buddy" Carnes from Marion, William "Kelly" Johnson from Avery county and J. William Russell from Candler.
