Jeff Truitt Awarded Navy Commendation Medal
Raleigh, NC (December 7, 2011) – Jeff Truitt, an attorney in Smith Anderson’s Government Contracting, Commercial, Mergers & Acquisitions, and Private Equity practice groups, was awarded a Navy Commendation Medal by the Secretary of the Navy for his work with the Naval Surface Forces Atlantic command in Norfolk, Virginia as a reservist from 2009 to 2011. Mr. Truitt is a former active duty JAG Corps officer and holds the rank of Commander in the reserves. The award, signed by Rear Admiral David M. Thomas, Jr., cited Mr. Truitt’s assistance with a number of high profile and sensitive matters, including investigations involving alleged computer network compromises, faulty ship lubricating oil systems, senior officer misconduct, and alleged violations of the Marine Mammal Protection Act. Mr. Truitt also provided legal advice to the command regarding various ethics and compliance matters.
Mr. Truitt’s practice at Smith Anderson includes government contracting, mergers and acquisitions, and commercial transactions. He also assists early stage, growth and venture-backed companies in all phases of start-up, financing and exits. Mr. Truitt has experience working with clients in a broad range of industries, including technology, software, utilities, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, manufacturing, distribution, energy, and professional services.
Immediately prior to joining Smith Anderson, Mr. Truitt practiced corporate and securities law with Sidley Austin LLP in Chicago.
