Former Smith Anderson Partner Matthew G.T. Martin Confirmed to Serve as U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of N.C.

On November 9, the Senate confirmed former Smith Anderson Partner Matthew G.T. Martin, to be United States Attorney for the Middle District of North Carolina for a four year term. The White House announced on September 8 that President Donald Trump nominated Mr. Martin for the position. Mr. Martin will serve as the chief Federal law enforcement officer within his Federal judicial district.

At Smith Anderson, Mr. Martin’s practice focused on complex litigation. He helped clients with a range of civil litigation, construction, and real property matters and was part of the firm’s commercial litigation, construction and real estate groups.

Mr. Martin currently serves as the Associate General Counsel for Duke Energy Corporation. He received his B.S., with honors and highest distinction, from the University of North Carolina and his J.D., with high honors, from the University of North Carolina School of Law, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the North Carolina Law Review.
