Day of Service, Day of Joy: Smith Anderson Gives a Helping Hand to the Community

Smith Anderson proudly co-sponsored the North Carolina Rotary Club District 7710’s inaugural Day of Service on April 19—the brainchild of one of our lawyers and Rotary’s district governor, David Hayden.

When David was installed as the district governor in 2020, he started thinking about new projects that members could take on to continue the Rotary Club’s mission: “Provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.” One of his ideas was realized during the Day of Service event, when hundreds of Rotary Club members, along with their families, friends and members of the Smith Anderson team, gathered at sites from Roxboro to Raleigh to Smithfield to serve their respective communities during the district’s first Day of Service. 

Among the approximately 40 projects, volunteers washed buses at the Boys and Girls Club of Raleigh, tended a community garden in Smithfield, painted the interior of a Salvation Army free dental clinic, and reached more than 600 people with information about COVID-19 vaccines and where to get them. Additionally, a team of volunteers from our firm was on beautification detail picking up trash at Roberts Park in Southeast Raleigh. 

“One of the exceptional attributes of Rotarians is that we are all unique in our differences,” David said. “We represent every ethnicity, culture, gender identity, age group, belief system, religion, profession, and any other category that people use to describe themselves. We draw strength from those distinctions, yet are unified in the mission to help make the world a better place for everyone.” 

Smith Anderson appreciates the important work of organizations such as Rotary, and the opportunity to work with it and other groups that address the needs of our community.
