Byron Kirkland Moderates the Going Public Panel at UNC Kenan-Flagler's Inaugural Private Equity Conference

Smith Anderson partner, Byron B. Kirkland, was selected to moderate a panel at the inaugural private equity conference hosted by the University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler business school.

Mr. Kirkland's panel, Going Public, addressed some of the issues private equity funds and their portfolio companies face when going public. Distinguished panelists discussing these topics were David Dupree, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of private equity investment firm The Halifax Group; William J. Kaluza, Chief Executive Officer of software company Intervolve, Inc.; Walker Poole, Founding Partner of private equity group Banc of America Capital Investors; and John Shearburn, Managing Director of principal investment firm Warburg Pincus.

Mr. Kirkland practices in the areas of corporate, securities, venture capital, mergers and acquisitions, and technology law. He regularly represents venture funds and diverse companies including public and private entities and start-up, emerging, growth and mature companies. His extensive experience includes public offerings, venture capital financings, mergers and acquisitions, and general corporate law matters. His peer and client recognition includes listing in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business; North Carolina Super Lawyers; and The Best Lawyers in America. Mr. Kirkland currently serves on the boards of directors of both the Council for Entrepreneurial Development and North Carolina Technology Association.
