American Bar Association Elects Taylor Dewberry as State Representative

News

Members of the American Bar Association (ABA) have elected Smith Anderson attorney Taylor Dewberry as its North Carolina representative for its Young Lawyers Division (YLD).

Taylor started her two-year term on Aug. 31. Representing District Nine, one of Taylor’s primary duties in the role will be leading the ABA YLD’s Disaster Legal Services program, ensuring the delivery of legal help to areas in North Carolina that are impacted by natural disasters such as hurricanes.

Taylor will serve as the main representative of ABA YLD to local legal service providers, voluntary agencies such as the Red Cross and government agencies such as FEMA during times of crisis. Taylor will also represent the district when voting on ABA national matters.

Taylor is passionate about providing volunteer disaster legal services to North Carolinians who are facing devastation. Such times can put a spotlight on inequities within communities, and Taylor sees her new role as one to help bridge those gaps.

Taylor is an attorney with Smith Anderson’s Employment, Labor and Human Resources practice group. Her practice focuses on employment-related counseling and defending employers against claims involving discrimination, wrongful discharge, retaliation, harassment and civil rights claims. Taylor also serves as Smith Anderson’s Chief Diversity Officer.
