Alicia Gilleskie Presents at North Carolina Nanotechnology Commercialization Conference

Raleigh, NC (April 1, 2010) Alicia Gilleskie, a lawyer in Smith Anderson’s Intellectual Property and Information Privacy and Security practice groups, participated in a panel discussion titled “Emerging Technologies: From lab to marketplace” during the North Carolina Nanotechnology Commercialization Conference.

The program was presented April 1, 2010, at the Koury Convention Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. Among the organizers were the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Small Business and Technology Development Center, the Greensboro Partnership, and the Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering.

Gilleskie was one of four presenters on the panel. The panel discussed topics including: perspectives on technology transfer and licensing; legal considerations of tech transfer; a university spin-out success story; and information for companies seeking to work with universities. Those in attendance included researchers, small business owners, contractors, entrepreneurs, service professionals and members of the general community.

Also on the conference agenda was Janet Cowell, Secretary Treasurer of North Carolina, speaking about the North Carolina Innovation Fund. The conference featured information on nanotechnology-specific issues, and workshops on relevant topics, including biomedicine, energy, and defense.
